The Magic Triangle

Courses / Programming Posters / The Magic Triangle

To develop ideas for self-initiated projects, I use a method that I call the Magic Triangle. It helps me to define a visual system and sticking with it, so in the process of developing a project I keep the focus on the important things.

The Magic Triangle is based on a very simple idea: I write the name of the project into a triangle and note three conceptual parameters to the sides of the triangle.

In the case of the Programming Posters project the three sides were

  1. Use Processing
  2. Set the aspect ratio of the sketch to a standard DIN Format
  3. Use only a specific blue and white

That was it. With this little drawing I sketched into my notebook I was able to remember the whole idea of this explorative project.

In a sense I was creatively exploring the space within the Triangle, constrained by three walls, where each of these walls represented one of the parameters.

How will your Magic Triangle look like? You can use this app to design it. Also please feel free to feel invited to send it to me and get a feedback!
